UNDATED (WHTC) - A couple of Lakeshore residents earned honors recently.
Soybean farmer Vic Wolfert of Zeeland was recognized in the 2013 Asgrow Yield Chasers Contest sponsored by the subsidiary of Monsanto. Company officials were impressed by his yield of over 97 bushels per acre, using one of their brands of soybeans. This is the 12th year of the contest meant to encourage producers of this crop. Wolfert and other high-yield farmers were honored at a ceremony in San Antonio.
A 65-year-old Otsego woman is the state’s 2014 Salute to Senior Service Award winner. Del Beier was recognized for dedicated community service, including overseeing the Hands-2-Hands program that ensures over 170 local low-income children have enough food to eat on weekends away from school. Award program sponsor Home Instead Senior Care will give a 500-dollar donation to a charity of her choice in her name.
