UNDATED (WHTC) -- The sentencing of a 21-year-old man in the death of Michigan State Trooper Paul Butterfield happened in a Mason County courtroom this afternoon. A jury took only 90 minutes in February to find 21-year-old Eric Knysz guilty of the murder of a police officer, along with three other charges. This afternoon, prior to sentencing, Trooper Butterfield’s father gave a brief biography of his son, Paul’s life. Mason County 51st Circuit Judge Richard I. Cooper sentenced Knysz to life in prison for the murder of Trooper Butterfield. There is a six week period for appeal.
