GRAND RAPIDS (WHTC-AM/FM) — A wind advisory is in effect for the Lakeshore area, and as far inland as Kalamazoo and Lansing, starting at 11 a.m., according to a National Weather Service bulletiin from the Grand Rapids office.
Meteorologists expect wind gusts from 45 to 50 mph, with scattered power outages and downed tree branches.
High winds can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, according to the statement.
Preparation for possible power outages includes keeping electronic devices charged and having extra batteries and generators ready. Consumers Energy indicated Friday that, despite the holiday, the company has people and equipment ready to respond to outages.
The advisory will remain in efect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.
Another weather service bulletin keeps a gale warning on Lake Michigan in effect until 10 p.m. Winds on the water could reach 34 to 47 knots, meaning vessels should be properly equipped and operated by those will experience in navigating such storms. The weather service statement advice: “Mariners without the proper experience seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.”
