Levin: "Heavy hearts" after Fort Hood shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO) -- Senator Carl Levin says lawmakersare meeting with "heavy hearts" after the mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas. The Michigan Democrat chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee.

In a oversight hearing, Army Secretary John McHugh expressed condolences to victims and their families. He said all available medical and investigative resources are being committed to the aftermath.

The latest gun violence resulted in four deaths, including the shooter. He's identified as Specialist Ivan Lopez who'd served in Iraq and was known to have mental health issues.

A November 2009 shooting spree at Fort Hood left more than a dozen people dead. McHugh said the Fort Hood community will "come together and stand as one as they have so many times before."
