Harsh winter hurting the production of bees

UNDATED (WTVB) - It’s another one of the unfortunate consequences of this harsh winter. Area beekeepers say they have lost most if not all of their colonies. West Michigan bee keeper Don Lam says he lost all of his 20 bee colonies to the cold. He says it’s normal to lose some, and for a while they were losing a third every year to that mysterious colony collapse disorder. He plans to travel south to buy new bees in Georgia this month, but he won’t be able to replace them all.

Without bees, food crops don’t get pollinated, fruit doesn’t grow, farmers lose money and you pay more at the grocery store.
