LANSING, MI (WTVB) - One window closes and another one opens. The deadline for buying health insurance through the Federal Exchange for Michigan passed at midnight. The period for signing up for the Healthy Michigan Plan began when the other one ended. State Health officials say unlike the website for the Affordable Care Act, which crashed under the strain yesterday, their website can handle a rush.
Michigan Department of Community Health spokesperson Angela Minicuci says even if all 477,000 Michiganders who are eligible called today, the system could handle it.The federally funded program raises the income level for Medicaid eligibility, giving more of the working poor access to healthcare coverage.
