Michigan car-deer collisions down

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Car-deer appear to be down in Michigan.  State Farm Insurance recently analyzed its latest annual report on car-deer collisions in the U.S. using information from the Federal Highway Administration and their own data on insurance claims.

Of the 41 states in the report, Michigan saw an 11.4-percent drop in the reported incidents of such collisions.  However, according to the Michigan Deer Crash Coalition, there is still an average of 134 car-deer collisions in the state on a daily basis.

According to State Farm's numbers, Michigan ranks the state tenth most likely for such crashes to take place, roughly one in 92.  That's compared to one in 174 nationally.

The data also found that most crashes do happen during deer hunting season, with 18-percent of all such collisions taking place during November.
