Drug Quality and Security Act Passed in House of Representatives

UNDATED (WHTC) -- Bipartisan legislation introduced by Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton to improve safety and to help prevent a future public health crisis like the 2012 deadly meningitis outbreak tied to the New England Compounding Center, passed in the House of Representatives on Saturday.  The Drug Quality and Security Act is the result of an investigation into that outbreak that infected 750 people and left 64 dead across the country.  All accounts show that Michigan families were hit hard by the contamination, with 264 people infected and 19 deaths.  Upton said, “The Senate and the House, Republicans and Democrats came together to produce a bill that will protect American patients by ensuring they receive safe drugs.”
