Wayne State University forfeits funding

DETROIT (WKZO) -- Wayne State University has been forced to forfeit funding after violating a tuition increase cap put in place by the state Legislature.  The university’s 8.9-percent tuition increase violated the cap, forcing WSU to forfeit over half-a-million dollars in performance funding.

Earlier this month, State Budget Director John Nixon notified the university it was forfeiting the money and that it was divided up between 14 other public universities.  The tuition cap was put in place as part of an effort to stop universities from passing significant tuition increases that have made college less affordable.
