UNDATED (WHTC) -- Sentencing took place this afternoon for two people involved in an apparent drag race in the overnight hours of this past Easter morning. Jeremy Collins, a 27-year-old Park Township man, and Maly Phongsavanh, a 23-year-old woman from Holland Township, had pleaded no contest to felony fatal hit-and-run charges. 24-year-old Joshua Owens of Holland was hit by both vehicles as he was attempting to cross Ottawa Beach Road near 152nd Avenue. Both Phongsavanh and Collins were sentenced to 180 days in jail and 36 months of probation by Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Ed Post. In addition to the sentence, Collins has been ordered to wear an electronic tether for 180 days after getting out of jail. Phongsavanh received appr4oval to participate in a work release program while serving her sentence.
