HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- Holland Public Safety firefighters were busy Monday morning with two separate blazes. Just after 8 a.m., Fire Services personnel were dispatched to a residence at 474 Pine Avenue. When they arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the south side of the structure and heavy fire in the rear portion of the building. Fire crews were in scene until approximately 12:30 P.M. to locate and extinguish hidden fire in the second floor and roof area. A mother and daughter were in the house but were evacuated safely. Total damage to the structure and contents is estimated at 80-thousand dollars. The cause of the fire is under investigation but not considered suspicious. A second possible residential fire at 130 East 19th Street was a result of discarded smoking material smoldering in the basement. Damage was minimal. The HDPS fire personnel were assisted by police services and AMR. Mutual aid was received from Graafschap, Hamilton and Park Township fire departments.
