WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC) - The annual Ottawa County Dog Census is now complete. During the past three months, interns with the Sheriff's Department and the Treasurer's Office went to over 20 thousand residences that had no canines registered, and 22 percent of them had a total estimate of 21 thousand such animals unlicensed. Notices of state law with threats of misdemeanor citations were issued to the owners. A steady decline of registered dogs since a peak of nearly 21 thousand in 2003 continues.
