UNDATED (WHTC) -- The Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Kingdom of the Netherlands announced an upcoming modernization plan that would result in the closing of the Dutch Consulate in Chicago. The plan also includes the closing of four other consulates around the world. The Michigan House and Senate overwhelmingly approved resolutions sponsored by Joe Haveman in the House and Arlan Meekhof in the Senate. The resolution strongly urges that the proposal to close the consulate be reconsidered and that the Netherlands retains a strong diplomatic presence in the Midwest Region of the U.S. Both the House and Senate versions will be forwarded to the Michigan Congressional delegation and to the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs.
