UNDATED (WHTC) - Some private school and college students have already been hitting the books, but for public school pupils in all but one Lakeshore district, today is the first day of classes for the 2014 academic year. Holland Public Schools is waiting one extra day before beginning lessons tomorrow, as there will be open houses at all district buildings today to go over changes and improvements with parents and community members. For the first time in several years, no local district is beginning classes with a new superintendent in charge. State lawmakers are considering revoking a law passed several years ago that had prevented public schools from starting classes before Labor Day in an effort to promote tourism, and return that decision to local districts.
