OTTAWA COUNTY, MI (WHTC) -- An accident in the eastbound lanes of I 96 just after 4 P.M. on Monday caused delays for more than two hours. Traffic was slowing due to construction delays. Brian Lewis, a 36-year-old Zeeland resident, rear-ended a vehicle that was stopped driven by 32-year-old Joshua Martin of Coopersville. Ottawa County Sheriff Sergeant Brain Buter reported that traffic was stopped due to construction. Lewis apparently didn't notice that traffic was at a standstill and rearended the vehicle driven by Martin. Martin was pinned in his car and had to be extricated. Martin's vehicle crashed in a car being driven by 52-year-old Terry Mundwiler of Grand Rapids. Martin was taken to North Ottawa Hospital and is listed in serious condition. Mundwiler and Lewis were not injured but Lewis was cited for causing the crash.
