LANSING, MI (WTVB) - State officials say anywhere between 15,000 and 20,000 government employees in Michigan may be laid off if the shutdown in Washington continues past October 14th.  The state had money set aside to subsidize federal programs affected by the shutdown but that money is quickly running out.  In addition to the job reductions, there may be a reduction in food assistance programs and unemployment checks will likely be affected.

Officials with the state's budget office say over 41% of the state's budget is federally funded.
