HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - A year in jail and/or a two thousand-dollar fine is the maximum punishment in Michigan for conviction on a moving violation causing death charge. That’s the misdemeanor count facing 19-year-old Reyna Mendoza of Fennville as she plead not guilty in an arraignment before Holland District Court Judge Susan Jonas this morning. Prosecutors claim that she drove her SUV through a red light on eastbound Business 196 in Zeeland and broadsided the 1976 Pontiac of Dale Woodwyk crossing on State Street, killing the 74-year-old Holland man and injuring his 16-year-old grandson whom he was taking to a Classic Car show on the morning of July 13th. Mendoza remains free on five thousand dollars bond pending a pre-preliminary hearing on October 22nd.
