HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - A municipal candidate forum was held last night in Holland’s Herrick District Library, but not all of the hopefuls were on hand. Incumbent City Council members Brian Burch, Nancy DeBoer and Todd Whiteman didn’t attend the session held by the LGBT activist group Holland is Ready, along with other minority-related organizations such as the Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance and Latin Americans United for Progress, but their challengers, Richard Burlingame, Darlene DeWitt and Don Martin, were on hand, along with incumbents Mike Trethewey and Mayor Kurt Dykstra, both of whom are running unopposed. Burch, DeBoer and Whiteman had voted against expanding the city’s anti-discrimination ordinance to include the LGBT community two years ago. The League of Women Voters of the Holland Area, who normally holds candidate forums, has one slated for City Hall on October 21st.
