UNDATED (WHTC) -- The 2013 Michigan Department of Education Count Day takes place this Wednesday. This information is critical to districts, because each student translates into state funding. While most of a district’s funding is determined by this week’s count, Kathy Breen, of the Ottawa Public School District, says even if students are absent that day, they could still be counted. Excused absentees can still be counted if they come back to school within 30 days of the count. Students with unexcused absence can make up the absence within 10 school days. Local school boards make the distinction between excused and unexcused absences.
