HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - The Macatawa Area Coordinating Council is looking for farmers interested in a runoff reduction effort along the Lakeshore. The MACC’s Policy Committee on Monday accepted a nearly 112 thousand-dollar, three-year Great Lakes Basin Program grant from the EPA’s Great Lakes Restoration Initiative to provide about half of the 242 million-dollar cost for the project aimed at implementing best management practices that would increase crop residue and erosive soil resistance, while promoting infiltration and reducing stormwater runoff. The plan would be for subwatersheds along Peters Creek, the upper Macatawa River, and the South Branch. Those interested in the project are asked to call the MACC’s offices on Holland’s North Side at 395-2688.
