HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- A lecture linking Amsterdam to the New World is scheduled for Tuesday night. Author Russell Shorto will speak about his latest book, “Amsterdam: A History of the World’s Most Liberal City.” Topics included in the lecture are how the city became a global exporter of some of the major tenets of Western liberalism, as well as the Dutch impact on American values and culture. Shorto’s books have been published in 14 languages and he has won numerous awards. He received a Dutch knighthood in the order of Orange-Nassau for his services in strengthening the relationship between the Netherlands and the United States. The lecture is Tuesday evening at 7 P.M. in the DeWitt Center Main Theater. A reception and book signing follow the lecture. The public is invited and admission is free.
