NUNICA, MI (WHTC) - “Bucklephobia” is the state’s newest packaging of the long-standing “click it or ticket” seat belt enforcement initiative underway during this Memorial Day weekend, but a 60-year-old Hudsonville woman can be a living, more effective testimony to the value of being belted while motoring.
A buckled up Eva Barna was driving her SUV eastbound on I-96 late on Friday morning when, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant John Wolffis, disaster struck past the construction zone east of Nunica. A mechanical problem apparently caused her vehicle to lose control near the 19 mile marker and veer to the left off of the roadway. It rolled over several times in the median before coming to rest without striking any other vehicles in either direction.
She was extricated by rescue crews and was taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
