Hope College Student Fatally Injured

HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- A single vehicle accident has taken the life of a Hope College student.  The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department is reporting that 18-year-old Riley Gortsema was fatally injured in the accident.  Police say she was trying to cross U.S. 31 near Chicago Dr. just before 2 a.m. Saturday morning.  A tour bus carrying the Christian music group Audio Adrenaline was southbound on U.S. 31 after a Friday night concert in Muskegon.   According to authorities, Gortsema was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ottawa County Medical Examiner's Office. The bus driver was not hurt, and neither were members of the music group.  Staff from the Residential Life, Counseling and Psychological Services and Campus Ministries have been made available in the wake of the incident.  Audio Adrenaline posted a message on its website asking for prayers for the accident victim’s family as well as its bus driver. A memorial service for Gortsema is scheduled at 1 PM on Wednesday in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
