Sanchez Misses No-No as Tigers Win; Griffins Draw First Blood vs. Barons


UNDATED (WHTC) - Joe Mauer's single with one out in the ninth inning spoiled Anibal Sanchez' bid for a second career no-hitter, but that was the only hit that the Detroit righthander allowed in a 12-strikeout performance, as the Tigers blanked visiting Minnesota last night, 6-0. The series at Comerica Park continues this afternoon, with coverage on 1450 WHTC at 3:40 PM.

Ryan Hanigan's three-run homer in the 4th inning was the key blow in Cincinnati's 7-4 triumph over the visiting Cubs last night. The series at The Great American Ballpark continues this afternoon.

Jeff Keppinger's single in the 11th inning enabled the White Sox to outlast visiting Miami last night, 4-3. The series at US Cellular Field in Chicago continues this evening.


Zach Kirksey's three-run homer in the sixth inning broke a scoreless tie, and the Whitecaps went on to win at Dayton last night, 5-2. West Michigan goes across the state of Ohio to begin a three-game series in Eastlake against the Lake County Captains this evening.


The Red Wings skate at Chicago's United Center in NHL Stanley Cup playoff action this evening, with Detroit leading the Blackhawks in the best-of-seven Western Conference Semifinals, three games to one.


Landon Ferraro's goal at the 2:35 mark of the second period broke a 1-1 tie, and the Griffins held off visiting Oklahoma City the rest of the way in a 2-1 AHL Calder Cup playoff victory last night. Grand Rapids drew first blood in the best-of-seven Western Conference Finals, and hosts the Barons again  at Van Andel Arena this evening.
