ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - The second Lakeshore community this week to deal with the medical marijuana dispensary issue was Zeeland Township, whose board last night approved on second reading an ordinance amendment banning such facilities. Other restrictions include limiting caregivers to five state-certified clients, barring signs or other public notices about such operations, and a thousand-foot minimum space from any playground, daycare, school, church, or other community site. Officials say that the new code is in keeping with state guidelines on such dispensaries that developed following the 2008 voter passage of medical marijuana. Douglas approved dispensaries in commercial and light industrial areas on Monday.
