U.S. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Rep. Sander Levin (D-MI) speaks during the Reuters Financial Regulation Summit in Washington

WASHINGTON (WKZO) -- U.S. Congressman Sander Levin criticized the Internal Revenue Service Friday morning during his opening statement at a hearing of the House Ways and Means Committee.

The committee is looking into the allegations that IRS officials unfairly targeted conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status.  Levin was highly critical of former IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman and current Commissioner Steven Miller who both told Congress there was "no targeting" going on.

Miller has submitted his resignation to President Obama in the wake of the scandal.
