Verlander Flirts with No-No as Tigers Sweep; Cubs, Sox, Caps & Hawks All Fall on Sunday

UNDATED (WHTC) - Justin Verlander took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before settling for allowing two hits with nine strikeouts over seven innings, as the Tigers completed a weekend sweep at Houston with a 9-0 victory over the Astros yesterday. Off today, Detroit begins a brief, two-game series at Washington tomorrow evening. Coverage on 1450 WHTC is at 6:40 PM.

Todd Frazier's two-run single capped a three-run fourth for Cincinnati, and the visiting Reds went on to complete a weekend sweep of the Cubs yesterday with a 7-4 triumph. Chicago welcomes Texas to Wrigley Field tonight in a game postponed by rain last month.

Alex Gordon's single in the 10th inning plated the winning run for Kansas City in the Royals' 6-5 decision over the visiting White Sox yesterday. Chicago looks to avoid being swept out of Kauffman Stadium this afternoon in a game postponed by rain this past Friday.
