UNDATED (WHTC) - Michigan is onto the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament, while the tournament trail hit a dead end for Michigan State. Friday night in Texas, Michigan roared back from 14 points down with seven minutes remaining in regulation to defeat Kansas, in overtime, 87-85. Trey Burke scored all 23 of his points in the second half and overtime, including a 30-foot 3-pointer with 4.2 seconds left in regulation that forced OT. The Wolverines will play Florida for a trip to the Final Four Sunday.
Meanwhile, Michigan State’s season ended as the Spartans fell to Duke, 71-61 in Indianapolis. Seth Curry poured in 29 points for the Blue Devils, who will play Louisville in another regional final Sunday.
The Tigers defeated Tampa Bay 8-3 in their last home exhibition game Friday in Lakeland. They face the Rays this afternoon in their tuneup before Monday’s opening day contest. Broadcast time on 1450 WHTC 1 o’clock.
