GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) - On Wednesday afternoon, a one million-dollar Michigan Business Development Program grant was announced for Challenge Manufacturing. The performance-based grant will be used to support a planned 10 million-dollar expansion of the auto parts maker’s facilities in the region, one in Holland and three in Walker. Challenge officials claim that the upgrade in its metal stamping and modular assembly operations, based on increased customer orders, will result in increasing its thousand-member workforce by 180 full-time employees. Both cities are also offering unspecified tax abatements in conjunction with this Michigan Economic Development Corporation initiative, which was engineered with the help of regional business incubator agencies Lakeshore Advantage and The Right Place. There was no timetable mentioned as to when this expansion would become a reality.
