ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) - Another step away from a century-long ban on alcohol sales in Zeeland could be taken tonight if the city council approves on final reading an ordinance amendment that would allow restaurants that sell liquor by the glass to be able to sell packaged beer and wine. A proposed microbrewery on Main Avenue, along with patrons at both Vitale’s and the Public Restaurant, has apparently asked for such a convenience. Voters in 2007 approved lifting the ban, and two restaurants and a party store have since obtained liquor licenses. This issue highlights local meetings on tap tonight, as the school boards in the Holland, West Ottawa, Zeeland and Saugatuck districts stage their monthly get-togethers.
