DOUGLAS, MI (WHTC) - It may take longer to get through the Saugatuck-Douglas area along the Blue Star Highway, if Douglas city officials have their way. A 4.5 million-dollar renovation of the old West Michigan Pike route would include installing roundabouts at the intersections of both Center Street and Wiley Road, along with other aesthetic improvements. City officials say that the project would improve pedestrian safety, make traffic flow better, and allow for easer commuter access to Douglas’ downtown district. A special city council meeting tonight will discuss priorities, direction and timetables for the effort.
