HOLLAND (WHTC) - A downtown Holland pub will pay the family of a Hamilton girl killed by a drunken driver 400-thousand dollars in a settlement approved by Ottawa County court officials. The Curragh Irish Pub was sued by the family of Bethany Rozema, an 18-year-old Hamilton High graduate who was killed in February of last year when her car was struck broadside at the intersection of 17th Street and Pine. The suit alleged the Curragh served 22-year-old Eleazer Mendoza even though he was visibly intoxicated. Court records indicate Mendoza had an alcohol level twice the legal limit at the time of the crash. He is serving 3-to-15 years in prison. Mendoza will also have to pay the family 100-thousand dollars as part of the settlement of the civil suit.
