LAMONT, MI (WHTC) - Some “horseplay” may have turned tragic at a home in eastern Ottawa County. Sheriff’s Detective Lieutenant Mark Bennett and fellow deputies were called to the residence in the 38 hundred block of Leonard Street east of the village of Lamont around 9:15 on Wednesday night on a report of a teen being shot in the head. When they arrived, they found one boy with a wound to the face, with five others at the scene, as they were apparently handling a .22-caliber weapon that fired a round. The 16-year-old victim was initially listed in critical condition at Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital, while 18-year-old Richard Usher was arraigned on Thursday afternoon in Hudsonville District Court on attempted manslaughter charges and remains held on 200 thousand dollars bond pending a pre-preliminary hearing slated for next Wednesday. The incident remains under investigation.
