DETROIT (WKZO) -- The Detroit City Council will challenge the Governor’s plan to appoint an Emergency Financial Manager, but the Mayor won’t be with them.

The council will be restricted to arguing that the numbers that a state appointed Financial Review Team came up are wrong. The Team found that the city faces a 327-million dollar deficit and 14-billion in long term debt.

Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh says an appeal could lead to an expanded consent agreement which would be preferable to an EFM.

But Mayor Bing says he thinks they are wasting their time. He says he doesn’t agree an EFM is needed either, but says it now looks inevitable.
