PLAINWELL, MI (WHTC) - Life may return to normal in Plainwell today after more than 24 hours of upheaval from a blaze at a hazardous waste disposal facility. Investigators won’t know for days what led to an apparent explosion and fire at the Drug and Laboratory Disposal complex on Broad Street on Monday afternoon, with rekindling overnight leading to evacuation of homes and businesses in a quarter-mile radius northeast of the plant. There were no injuries to workers, responders or others. The all-clear came yesterday afternoon after air testing. The company contracts with local universities and hospitals in handling waste such as syringes, blades and other biohazard materials.
