ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI (WHTC) -- A program by a local hospital providing free mammogram screenings is having great success. Allegan General Hospital’s Pink Allegan program provided the service for 81 women in the first year of its inception. Radiology manager Julie Kendall says the goal was to help women who have lost their insurance or are under-insured and not making enough money to afford the service on their own. Mammograms are are one of the best early detection methods, detecting a breast lump an average of 1.7 years beforeit can be detected by self-examination. To find out if you’re eligible to participate in the Pink Allegan program, call the radiology department at AGH at 269-686-4210.
