UNDATED (WHTC) -- It’s official. President Obama has declared a major disaster area for 16 counties on Michigan’s Lower and Upper Peninsula, including Ottawa, Allegan and Kent counties. The Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division and federal partners will hold applicant briefings across the state in order to help communities understand and start the application process. Governor Rick Snyder said, “This presidential declaration is the first step in providing assistance to state and local governments as they rebuild their roads, bridges and other public infrastructure.” In addition to the presidential disaster declaration for public assistance and hazardous mitigation assistance, the U.S. Small Business Administration is making low interest loans available to residents and businesses.
