HOPKINS, MI (WHTC) - For the second time in less than 24 hours, there was a fatal accident involving a vehicle and a bicyclist on a Lakeshore road.
Allegan County authorities were waiting until notifying family members before disclosing any names of those involved in a fatal car-bicycle crash late yesterday morning in Hopkins. A 51-year-old local woman was pedaling on eastbound 130th Avenue near 17th Street when she was hit from behind by a vehicle driven by a 41-year-old Dorr man. She died from her injuries at Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital; there were no reports of any injuries suffered by the driver.
This incident came 16 hours after a 51-year-old Holland Township woman died when she was struck by a vehicle while pedaling her bicycle. Barbara Roels succumbed to her injuries at Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital following the crash at the intersection of Riley Street and 104th Avenue on Holland’s North Side. Authorities say that the car of 35-year-old Kelly Briggs of Zeeland Township apparently drove through a stop sign before striking the cyclist.
Both incidents remain under investigation
