HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - Several hundred people came to the Holland Civic Center on Thursday night to watch some past high school and college basketball starts along the Lakeshore compete in the first Wes Leonard Heart Team Laker Alumni Game. The three dozen or so athletes all played in the West Michigan Lakers amateur basketball program over the past decade, and they came to support the effort in putting AED's in schools across the state, along with education on the perils of sudden cardiac arrest among youngsters. Wes Leonard was a star two-sport athlete at Fennville High School who died suddenly two years ago after a basketball game when he had cardiac arrest, and the AED at the school didn't have a working battery at the time; he was also a part of the Lakers program. WHTC's Red Kingman was an honorary coach for this occasion.
