HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- The Graafschap (graf-scup) Fire Department will be buying some new hoses soon, thanks to a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Chief Cal Haverdink says the 25-thousand, 9-hundred thirty dollars grant money will be used to purchase 5-inch supply hoses. They've been using both 4 and 5 inch hoses. The Chief went on to say that the 5-inch hose puts out a larger volume of water than the 4-inch hose, which of course will help control the fires more efficiently. This is not the first time that the Graafschap Fire Department has received a grant from the FEMA Assistance to Firefighter’s program. Haverdink said that several years ago, they received a grant that enabled them to purchase a breathing air filling station.
