KALAMAZOO, MI (WHTC) - Senior Regional Analyst George Erickcek of the Upjohn Institute says that employment in the six metropolitan areas of West Michigan increased by one percent, or about eight thousand jobs, during the first three months of 2013, but that only translated to a one tenth of a percentage point drop in unemployment. In Ottawa County, the job gain was eight tenths of a percentage point, or about a thousand jobs. Erickcek cautions that the Lakeshore's economic indicators were mixed for the quarter, "which suggests that employment conditions could soften during the summer months."
