OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC) -- The kids are out of school and it’s time to have fun at the beach. Beaches along the Lakeshore are beautiful and for the most part, clean. That being said, the Ottawa County Health Department’s Kristina Wieghmink has a few recommendations for those headed into the water. To help prevent recreational water illnesses: keep pets off the beach, don't swallow the water, don't swim in water that doesn't smell right and shower when you get home. The Ottawa County Health department monitors conditions and tests bacteria levels throughout the summer months at 16 public beaches. The results are posted on the miottawa.org website.
