DETROIT (WKZO) -- Chrysler Group LLC's decision to fight a recall request from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is being defended by two well-known industry officials.

Former GM and Chrysler executive Bob Lutz and UAW Vice President General Holyfield both support the company's decision.  Lutz said if Chrysler is convinced the NHTSA's own information shows the vehicles are no more prone to problems than other manufacturer's, they should take a stand.

At issue is a complaint from the government that requests Chrysler recall 2.7-million Jeeps to replace fuel tanks they say can catch fire in a rear end crash.  The automaker says those vehicles met and passed federal safety requirements mandated when they were built.
