DETROIT (WHTC) -- The Tigers keep hitting the ball and their pitchers are some of the best in baseball. Tigers beat Tampa Bay by a score of 5-2 today. Max Scherzer had a great day on the mound, allowing one run on four hits. He got his eighth win with no losses on the season. Scherzer became the first Tigers pitcher to reach the 100-strikeout mark through his team's first 58 games since Mickey Lolich (108) and Joe Coleman (103) in 1972. DH Victor Martinez helped the cause by belting a two run homer into the right field seats. Prince Fielder was the other run and he kept his hitting streak alive, making it 11 games in a row. Cleveland is in town tomorrow for a three game weekend set with the Tigers. Game time on 1450 WHTC is at 6:40 P.M.
