WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO) -- Its estimated that 7 out of 8 rape victims in the military never report it, because they fear retaliation, and more times than not, women who report it do suffer retaliation.

A Michigan Senator is leading the charge to turn that around. Carl Levin opened hearings yesterday in the Senate Armed Services committee and they spent 8-hours yesterday talking about how to get the military to take rape seriously.

The issue caught fire after a couple of officers assigned to programs to combat sexual assaults, were actually charged with the crimes themselves.

Several top ranking generals testified that they have not been as conscientious in enforcing policy as they should be, but opposed congressional intervention in the military justice system, or taking prosecution out of their hands...promising to do better.
