HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - The state law aimed at cutting down on texting while driving has apparently been ineffective. That’s according to Holland Public Safety Officer Doug VanderKooy, who founded the “Racing Through Education” non-profit program that teaches teens the dangers of distracted driving, saying that, instead of having the phone on the steering wheel, the device is now lower to avoid police detection and turning the eyes away from the road. He received, on behalf of the program today, a five-thousand dollar check from State Farm Insurance that will go towards an October 18th statewide teen forum on distracted driving at the Double Tree Hotel.
