WASHINGTON (WHTC) - A complaint by the Michigan Civil Rights Commission asking that federal funding for Saugatuck and 34 other school districts statewide be cut until they change their Native American team nicknames and mascots has been rejected. US Education Department officials say that there wasn’t enough evidence that a “racially hostile environment” is present. The state CRC is considering whether to appeal or take other action.
