SUTTONS BAY, MI (WHTC) - A 63-year-old Leelanau County woman could face up to five years in prison after reaching an plea agreement with prosecutors over the hit-and-run death of a four-year-old Allendale boy last July. Gertude Shorter entered her admission of guilt on a count of failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing injury or death. Authorities say that she stopped briefly after striking Gavin Punter as he rode on a tractor tricycle next to his grandmother as they walked several feet away from a road near their campsite near the village of Cedar, but then drove off and was found by a sheriff's deputy several miles away. The boy died at the scene. Shorter's sentencing is set for June 24.
