Health department issues warning about lyme disease this spring

LANSING, MI (WTVB) -The Michigan Department of Public Health says there is another disease carrying bug out there you have to worry about, especially if you live in west Michigan or in northern Michigan. Ticks can carry lyme disease, a nasty disease that can cause short term discomfort and long term problems if left untreated. Spokesperson Angela Minicuci says in addition to the deer tick, there are 5 different species of ticks that can carry the disease

Minicuci suggests staying away from tall grass, apply a repellant with DEET, and wear long pants and tall socks. She says there are about 90 lyme disease cases each year in Michigan. They begin with distinctive red rashes.
