Tiger Power Slams Orioles, Cubs Win Streak Ends, White Sox Drop Fifth in Row, Whitecaps Split, Griffins Tie Series, Blackhawks Win

UNDATED (WHTC) – Three consecutive home runs to start off the fourth inning, followed by a grand slam from Miguel Cabrera were more than enough to give Justin Verlander his seventh win of the season.  Single home runs hit by Victor Martinez, Jhonny Peralta and Alex Avila got things started in the fourth.  A full count to Cabrera with the bases loaded and the Tigers were well on the way to a 10-3 win.  The series in Oriole Park at Camden Yards continues this afternoon, with coverage on 1450 WHTC at 12:40 PM.

A long rain delay, two questionable calls by the first base umpire and a manger’s ejection were only the beginning of problems for the Cubs on Saturday.  Eight walks issued by Cubs pitchers and only three hits by Cubs hitters and the winning streak was over, with the Diamondbacks winning the game, 12-4.  The two teams meet again this afternoon at Wrigley Field.

The White Sox drop their fifth game in a row.  The White Sox had six hits, one run and no walks off Oakland’s starting pitcher to make the score 2-1, not in their favor.  The score was tied 3-3 going in to the bottom of the tenth when a walk-off-walk by Oakland’s Josh Reddick with the bases loaded, gave the White Sox their 5th loss, 4-3.  White Sox try to win one game of the series against Oakland this afternoon.

The Whitecaps split with Ft. Wayne Saturday afternoon, losing the completion of Friday night’s suspended game, 8-7.  The regularly scheduled game had a much better ending.  With the score 2-0 in the seventh, Danry Vasquez got his third home run of the year and the “Caps won, 3-1.  The two teams face off again this afternoon.

The Griffins tied up their series with the Oklahoma City Barons in Game 4 on Saturday, winning 4-0.  The two teams skate again this afternoon.  The Griffins and Barons will head back to Van Andel Arena for Game 6 on Tuesday.

The Black Hawks lead their series against the Los Angeles Kings after winning in Chicago last night, 2-1.  Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa each scored a goal in the second period to give the Hawks the win.  Game 2 happens tonight at the United Center.
